(365 Chances) #10: A little pick-me-up.

I talked a big game about going out and enjoying the city, but last night I enjoyed just being at home, making tomato soup from scratch, hanging out with my roommate, stealing her nail polish, and giving this little blog a mini-makeover. The thing is, I've had a book on CSS on my bookshelf for about a year now, and I've yet to actually read it. Every time one of the blogs I read gets a new header or design, I'm so tempted to just hire someone to do it. But my budget doesn't really have a "blog" section in it, so until it does, I'll have to keep jerry-rigging it with a creative combination of InDesign, PDFs, and screenshots. (The one above is the original, but I fell in love with Pacifico and changed my mind.) I recently learned at work where to put fonts I've downloaded to get them to show up in InDesign, and I'm putting that knowledge to good use.

After my night in, I met up with Meg and Tom at the Independent, a great place to go if you like brunch or beer or some combination of the two. I hadn't been there since Meg's birthday almost a year and a half ago (yes, she's had a birthday since then, but we spent it at Green Street), so it was nice to catch up at an old favorite.

I may be getting ahead of myself, but I've been thinking about signing up for a 5k sometime in the future. I've been using a 5k running app when I go to the gym, mostly so I have a reachable goal that gets a little more difficult as I continue to go rather than running for as long as I can to start (probably about five minutes, let's be honest) and feeling like a complete failure. The first weeks have been very doable, and I find that feeling of accomplishment has been enough to keep my momentum going. When I started the program, I didn't actually think I'd be interested in doing a 5k, but the more I think about it, I think it'd be an awesome end goal to work toward. I did a quick search of Boston races, and there are many to choose from.

This weekend I hope to make some headway in my book and my crocheted blanket, like any self-respecting granny. Also, I'm secretly plotting a trip to the Neighborhood (the best breakfast place in all of Somerville/Cambridge) that Mike doesn't know about yet!

We should do a 5k together when you come to D.C.! Or I'll do one up in Boston with you!
