Well, here we are on the other side. Last night I lay next to Mike, lamb shawarma and Blue Moon on my breath, and said, Best year of my life. And today, the sun rose high and started 2012 off brightly. It's funny how the mundane can become spectacular when it happens on an occasion, how a dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, ordering a glass of wine I normally wouldn't splurge for, baking my first from-scratch bread, fresh hot coffee--all of those things somehow seem meaningful, like a gift, because of the new year. I'm thankful for that.
Well, 2011, you've brought me a love I only guessed was out there; you've renewed my friendships and reminded me that distance is no real obstacle, except in the mind (the heart can reach across seas); you have stripped me of my negativity, reminded me that I am in control of the color of my world; you have shown me the talents I want to pursue and hone, and that my impatience with self-teaching is often cured by a hot cup of a coffee and an afternoon spent alone; you have definitely tried my patience, tried my capacity for sadness and empathy, but you have never doubted my ability to come out on the other end still rooted; you have reminded me the absolute irreplaceability of family and the hazy line between family and good, good friends. I could not be more thankful for another year under my belt and all of the people who have filled it.
On we go.

Maybe I spent too much time in Georgia, because my visceral response to this was watery eyes and the vocal one, "Amen."
Love you and loved 2011. I can't wait to see where this year takes us.
